# Evans Wins Women's Snooker Open in Malaysia for 64th Ranking Title

*Two days after turning 41, the 12-time world champion ended a year-long wait for silverware at the first women's ranking event staged in Malaysia.*

Reanne Evans is a ranking-event champion again — and she did it in a country that had never staged one before.

The 12-time world champion whitewashed Thailand's Mink Nutcharut 5-0 in Tuesday's final of the Niche Cues Women's Snooker Open in Kuala Lumpur, ending a wait of more than a year for silverware and taking her career tally on the World Women's Snooker Tour to 64 titles.

## Five frames, no way back

Evans took the opening frame, and a break of 59 in the second doubled her advantage. Nutcharut pressed in a tight third and the fourth went all the way to the final black, but the Englishwoman held her nerve both times to reach the mid-session interval one frame from the title.

She wrapped up the whitewash on resumption — a 5-0 win sealed two days after her 41st birthday.

## Revenge over Bai in the last four

The champion's route had one sticky moment: a deciding-frame 3-2 quarter-final win over Thailand's Panchaya Channoi, after a 3-1 last-16 victory against Lau Yuk Fan.

Evans saved her best for the semi-finals, beating China's Bai Yulu 4-1 to avenge her defeat in the recent UK Women's Championship final.

Nutcharut's run went through a decider of her own — a 4-3 semi-final over Mongolia's Narantuya Bayarsaikhan, who had earlier stunned Ng On Yee 3-1 in the quarters. For the Thai, Tuesday brought a second straight ranking-final defeat after her runner-up finish at the Australian Women's Open.

## A first for Malaysia

The tournament, played at the Niche Premier Snooker club in Kuala Lumpur, was the first women's ranking event ever held in Malaysia.

Evans is the third different ranking winner of the season on the women's tour, following Bai Yulu's UK Women's Championship success and Ng On Yee's triumph at the Australian Women's Open. Next stop is the Irish Women's Open in Carlow, from November 27-29.
